God-awful!!

I saw this again recently, and remember when I first saw it as a premiere on UK TV during the early '80s. A number of these Euro flops were heralded as big films coming soon etc, but I certainly never heard of 'em. They often starred big names who were well past their sell-by. Telefon with Charles Bronson was another one that springs to mind. Considering the length of the movie, certain characters are just sketchy cyphers. We don't learn that much about Ava Gardener, besides that she likes a drink and young toy-boys. And why were there only three people in the IHO control room? In order to maintain secrecy?

I don't really care to be honest.

bucka rube indeed...just think, you got to see martin sheen as a 37 y/o teenager and ole marble mouf o.j. simpson before he became public enemy numero uno...then there was the richard harris, burt lancaster, sophia loren connection....films of that era tried to load up the cast with big name stars to enhance the box office take....ava gardner was merely a placemarker

reply

Well, I agree with you there. Sophia looked ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS in this movie, like she does in all her films. Even Ava Gardener, a bit past it by then, is okay. I wouldn't kick either of them out of my bed the way they looked in this movie. But the stupid ex husband and wife thing going on between Loren and Harris is so hackneyed, and it's still used in movies now!!

Yes, how times change. Squeeze the juice!! The guy was a hero 30 years back. Look at him now. V V sad indeed.

laffin...not gonna go there about simpson....he was not a hero nor revered by intelligent blacks....did you happen to see ann turkel and lee strasberg ? i think sophia loren was always having affairs with her leading men...perhaps they never get to separate real life from the screen...or carlo ponti was nearby with a leathel weapon...

reply

Yes yes!! I noticed Turkel too as the sick hippy chick. So funny how they (Turkel & Harris) acted like they'd never met.

Did Harris & Loren do the deed? Lucky guy!! He was wild back then though.

I don't know what all the flack is about, i thought it was an OK film.
