I caught this film on TV when I was working and there was something about it that really took you to that era and I was wondering if anyone could recommend similar films to this?

That era? Aloha Bobby and Rose (1975). It even has a car wash scene in it!

I love Car Wash - and Cooley High also gives me that same vibe/feeling.
