One Of The Best

Car Wash is one of my all time favorites.
I have fond memories watching it with my family at a very young age and it's great to see it still getting a buzz here at IMDb.
The actors, charactors, music, editing and directing are all great.
It's pure genius how the charactors are moved around thru the magic of editing never leaving you bored.
Hopefully some day we'll see a better DVD package with director commentary and both versions of the film.

I love the movie too, it's terrific. I really like the way all the small stories tie together and how the DJ on the radio moves the plot along. It's really pure genuius the way the movie flows.

This may look like a B-movie at first, but "Car Wash" has some serious comic talent and fine acting to its credit. I have fond memories of this film from my childhood, and it holds up.

I agree with that. It seems deceptively simplistic, and it would be easy to think that nothing really happens in the film, but it tells a lot of interwoven stories with fairly traditional arcs in a very subtle and actually pretty complex way--and it's also interesting how it resembles both a play and a musical in some ways.

You mentioned both versions...is there a director's cut of this film available?

reply

Don't know about a director's cut but there is too very different versions. One version is the one shown on TV which has Danny DeVita in a good sized part, the other version is the VHS/DVD version in which he has no part at all. The superior version (IMO) is the one they show on TV (which is the opposite of the way it usually is).

I love this movie as well. There's a real infectious joy and vibrancy evident throughout that's a total treat to watch. The cast have a ball with their roles, the soundtrack is super, and the snappy pace never lets up for a minute.

Q: What's the biggest room in the world? A: The room for improvement.

One of my fave scenes is when the Boss jokingly changes the disco radio station playing on the speaker system to a station playing Sinatra, the outraged crew responds by washing the cars in extremely slow-motion. :D

It's those many very human moments that makes Car Wash a stand out 70's film.

This is not one of my favorites, but I was suprised to see that it is only rated 5.5 on IMDb. It deserves a higher score than that.
