Heard the soundtrack first, then LOVED the move!
I don't understand why this movie gets the rating here that it does. I think it's an excellent comedy/DRAMA!
Back in '76, My parents apparently went to see this movie and picked up the 2-record set soundtrack. They played it all the time, and eventually I'd sit there near the stereo with the headphones on and read the ginormous double-album artwork. There was this big picture of all the characters in a collage.
I ended up really loving the music - ALL of it, and finally the movie came out on TV. Woohoo! Eight-years-old and finally can see the movie my Dad told me so much about! Alas, it was totally cut-up. My Dad filled me in on the parts that were actually funny in the real version.
Years later, I finally saw it on some movie channel and loved it even more. This is a great slice of one-day life in the lives of these guys that I never knew but felt I did, even as a little kid. I even felt for Abdullah and T.C. as well as Lonnie in their situations. As an adult, I still totally enjoy the movie for it's characters and excellent story...
..but especially for the music. Just beautiful stuff.
