Sexual tension
Everybody else noticed the weird relationship between the Yankees coach (turner) and the lady who organized the league too right?

shareoh he was def having an affair with her.
shareI have never read the book. Can anyone who has tell us if this is any kind of plot point/mentioned in the print form?
shareWow, ive never thought of that before.
sharedid read the book... the Walther Matthau character (Buttermaker) actually takes Joey Turner's mom for a drive, I think, just to chat about the various conflicts with her Coach-husband, and s-h-e makes a mini-play for Buttermaker! He turns her down. So, the scene where *she takes her son (after coach-dad slaps him) and leaves the final game is quite telling.

* sorry - edited this phrase: my typo said 'he' by mistake
Oh,I would SO sleep with Vic Morrow.
I have a crush on Vic Morrow. :)
Nothing weird about it at all, assuming you've spent any time around coaches and tournament directors.
shareWell that's kind of a big assumption, care to enlighten us?
shareYeah, but his wife was WAY HOTTER than the skank that ran the league.
shareThe only way he was having an affair with that hag was to get the best ball players.....
his wife is smoking hot and looked as if she was a wild one, I am sure she was open to a lot of wild orgies and sex parties...no guy would want to lose her
he would only use the hag to help him win championships..maybe he just flirted with her and was nice to her... if he did have sex with her he didn't enjoy it im sure
Turner's wife had a hot enough ass
shareI hope not!!! Roy Turner's wife was a piece-of-ass.

If I'm thinking of the right people, the Fine Piece Of Ass gives her husband a funny look just before she walks off on him (after the humiliation scene where his kid refuses to throw the ball back or whatever he's supposed to do). This is of course the scene that inspired many comments about that lady's amazing rear end.
The look she gives him seems to be full of meaning, like "That is it. First the affairs, now this. We're through". And she walks off. I may be reading too much into it, I just thought it was loaded with meaning, years before I read this thread/theory.

Call me crazy, but I would not have beat around the bush with Vic Morrow. ;)
I don't know about that other woman who was in charge of the field, equipment, etc.
You guys can take Turner's wife with the nice tush and I'll take Vic Morrow with the nice blue eyes and chest hair.
Marry me,Bob Gunton!
It seems to me that she sort of had a crush on him.
She was always around him.
I friggin' love Vic Morrow. :)
The woman who organized the league was masculine. She might have been straight. But she was not worth risking a marriage for. Wouldn't people in the '70s object to a lesbian running a little league?
shareI'm watching the movie now and agree with the original poster. Those two are like two peas in a pod, they both deserve to be punched in the face.
And Vic's character is a moron if he was messing around with the equipment lady. His was smoking hot. I'd be spending more time at home and let someone else coach the baseball team if I was him.
