At that point the thought came that nowadays nobody would want to!!
I felt that Gault was an allusion to John Galt, the industrialist in Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged.

In which case, Gault didn't need his government (his handlers) to do his work of needing a new body for him, he could do it on his own with no help no matter how indirect... :D
