Sixth Season Released On DVD

Laverne & Shirley - One, Two, Three, Four, Five, '6,' Seven, Eight: They're Gonna Do It!

Welcome to Burbank! Laverne & Shirley move west with 'The Complete 6th Season'
Posted by David Lambert 2/19/2013

Last April, after being on hiatus (DVD-wise) for four years, Paramount Home Entertainment finally released the fifth season of the show ... the last one based in Milwaukee. Now after Shotz Brewery takes away their job as bottle cappers, the gals pack up and head west to California while everybody else comes and joins them in Laverne & Shirley - The Complete 6th Season. This DVD set comes to stores on May 21st, with 22 episodes including new neighbor Leslie Easterbrook (Police Academy) as "Rhonda Lee." Since they're right there by Hollywood (whose sign is seen in the new opening credits) you'll get a gander at guest stars such as Fred Dryer, Troy Donahue, Frank Ashmore, disc jockey Jim Lange, Keith Coogan, Larry Gelman, Stubby Kaye, Richard Moll, Eric Idle, Mitchell Laurance, Otis Day, and Vicki Lawrence. You'll also get Episodic Promos, a Gag Reel, and a Videogram, all for $39.98 SRP.

You can get it much cheaper on Amazon. Unfortunately, the majority of the music (most of it Beatles songs) have been replaced with generic instrumentals. Its nice to finally see a gag reel, though.

reply

Unfortunately, you are right about the music. But it is still nice to see one more season of "Laverne & Shirley" available on DVD. I didn't think it was going to happen. I would like to see seasons seven and eight on DVD even though eight was horrendous.

Making my way through season 6 on DVD... so far have been disappointed with the replaced music, but am up to "Malibu Mansion" and was really surprised that 8 minutes of the show was cut out. Why would they clip the whole part of the episode with "Bull" (Night Court)?

reply

That sounds really weak. Why did they have to edit so much?

reply

I think that the segment with Bull may have been cut due to the fact he was singing "Splish Splash" and the rights to that song may have been too expensive.
