"Shirley married Walter Meaney in CA then Cindy Williams left the show b/c she was pregnant in 1982! Laverne never married"
That episode aired two nights ago, and it was HORRIBLE. Why didn't they introduce this Walter character sooner? I mean, this wasn't some minor character getting married, this was Shirley, one of the main characters who was right there from the beginning! Such a character getting married is a big deal, so it can't be some schlub they throw in at the last minute. Plus, did they think having him wrapped in a body cast to blatantly prove that they couldn't cast a decent actor for this character was all that funny? Did they do it because on M*A*S*H when Margaret got married, her groom had his legs in casts? It was stupid then and it was stupid here.

They already act like a married couple anyway.
shareThey probably put the character at the last second because Cindy Williams told them she was pregnant and leaving out of the blue.
shareIf I remember correctly, in the short "episode" they did as part of the reunion special, they implied that Laverne had been married several times. The premise was the two of them on some kind of game show and the announcer introduced them as Shirley Feeney-Meaney and Laverne DeFazio-Something-Something-Something. I don't remember the specific names, but there were three or four names tacked on after DeFazio. Very funny!
shareWhy would she keep the names of her ex-husbands ?
shareHi Actorman - they were supposedly auditioning for "Survivor." Shirley was divorced and yes, Laverne was married a number of times and also had several children.

I don't know why but I wanted Shirley with Carmine =D

A lot of people did; it seemed so right when they lived in Milwaukee. But the show jumped the shark when they moved to California and Carmine seemed to be more of a buffoon and not the "Big Ragoo" as he was in Milwaukee.

ha - so true.
Milwaukee = ultra cool dude ; maybe even considered a "man of the town" with his dancing skills
California = dufus who was totally out of his element
They never married men. They were "partners."

Maybe Laverne & Shirley moved to California hoping to get married. Notthattheresanythingwrongwiththat. Same sex marriage would not become legal in California until many years later. It would not have been the first anachronism on the show.

A couple of English musicians played by Peter Noone and Eric Idle wanted to marry Laverne and Shirley to become American citizens in the "I Do, I Do" episode.
