Spinal Tap Connections

There has to be a connection between people who worked on "Laverne & Shirley" then later appeared in the movie "This Is Spinal Tap". It can't be a coincidence. Michael McKean was Lenny on "Laverne & Shirley". Then he co-wrote and co-starred in "This Is Spinal Tap".

Christopher Guest guested on one episode of "Laverne & Shirley". No pun intended. On the album "Lenny & Squiggy Present Lenny and the Squigtones" guitar work was credited to Nigel Tufnel, the name of Guest's Spinal Tap character. Guest also played with Lenny and the Squigtones when they appeared on "American Bandstand". I think he was on bass for that performance.

Harry Shearer, Fred Willard and Ed Begley, Jr. all guested on "Laverne & Shirley" then appeared in "Spinal Tap". I wonder if they met them on the set of "Laverne & Shirley" or knew each other before.

And Penny Marshall was married to Rob Reiner who directed, acted and co-wrote "This Is Spinal Tap". I think those are all the L&S-Tap connections.

McKean & Lander created the characters Lenny & Squiggy while they were in college long before being hired by the tv show. So yes there's a connection but if anything the cast of the show being involved in the movie comes from outside the show but the show put them on the map. Yes they knew Harry Shearer before L&S.

It's called "connections" and who you know, just like any other business. It's not a world of submitting a job application, and I think I'll take a chance on this applicant. It's referrals, friendships, and "networking." Not really a mystery here. So you are correct. There were between the lines, relationship development.
