because they never even flirted with the idea of making HER Lavernes roommate when Shirley left

I liked Rhonda with the exception of her self-centeredness.

Make her Laverne's roommate? Whenther people
liked her or not ,NO WAY that would ever have happend.

Early 1980s TV Announcer - "Hey all you ABC viewers!" "Stay tuned next for LAVERNE & RHONDA!"   Followed by ONE'S COMPANY,formerly 3's but without any of the female roommates!"

I thought Rhonda should have moved in with Laverne to help with the rent after Shirley left. They didn't have to change the name of the show unless it got renewed for a ninth season. That final season was hideous. Was there any chance of being renewed for a ninth season?

No chance at all. The ratings had fallen from their top 10 glory and the show was getting killed in the ratings by "The A-Team". In addition, Penny Marshall didn't want to continue, and ABC knew that the show was creatively spent.

I hated Rhonda. She was an obvious, unfunny character.

Laverne didn't then need a roommate. Vicki Lawrence as Sgt. Plout though would have been a good permanent addition to what was left of the show.

I loved it when L & S introduce Lenny & Squiggy to her
and Squiggy, seeing her hot bod, goes (loudly) , "R-r-r-r-r-HONDA!!!!!!!"

Then both proceed to practically maul her.

Still funny. 
