Laverne watched Star Trek in 1965?

That's what she talks about in the episode High Priced Dates. Star Trek didn't begin until the fall of 66. Kind of careless goof...considering how great the original ST was and still is.

reply

They stretched it a bit. The episode took place in April 1981, so it's 1966 in their era.

But you're right, Star Trek was in the fall and we would assume this is April 1966. Close but no cigar on the producers' part.

She also watched "Mission : Impossible" in
1965 but that show also didn't debut until Fall 1966.

Sometimes when I watched L&S it felt like the 70s, it didn't have that 50s feel to me that Happy Days did.

reply

Reading all of these threads I'm surprised we were supposed to believe it was the 50's and 60's at all, whenever I watched it I always thought the 70's despite the Happy Day's connection and saw Lenny and Squiggy as those guys who kept the hairstyles and clothes well past their use by date.

Sometimes a movie or tv show plot is so stupid that only the stupid can understand it.

This seems awfully nit-picky. Sorry.

Well "Happy Days" I believe was suppose to coincide with 20 years before so with the show starting off in 1974 it was suppose to be 1954. But even as a kid who didn't watch this show when it first came on because I wasn't born but seen it on WPIX 11 and Nick @ Nite I thought by the late 1970's this show was really trying to phase out the 1950's and early 60's nostiglia and be more of a 70's show. But I guess they also had to still appeal to a modern day audience also.

Even the show "The Wonder Years" which captured the late 1960's and early 70's fell off by its last two seasons to me and became more modern looking for its time, the early 1990's.

Happy Days's timeline is 1955 to 1965.

Laverne & Shirley 1957/1958 (skipping all of 1963 & most of 1964) to 1967.

Where do you get 1957 and 1958 from?

I just watched the early episodes of the first season and they were set in 1959.

So Laverne & Shirley was set in 1959 when it first premiered.
