Confusion about Nancy's 'other' child

Okay folks, is it just me being dumb or what here? I guess we can 'assume' that Nancy had an abortion, but that doesn't seem like something that would just happen and them not turn it into an episode... after all, they dealt with a lot of other issues.

In the very first episode, right?, the one where Nancy finds Jeff with another woman and runs out... they talk about her leaving the baby with other people a lot, so we know that they already have a child... and then she talks about being pregnant again. Fast forward a few episodes and they are having a christening for Timmy, but all of a sudden it becomes obvious that 1)there is only one child now and 2)Nancy is NOT pregnant... but there is never any mention of a miscarriage, abortion, another baby.

What happened??? Anybody know? If this is an oversight, I think it's a pretty big one, isn't it?

I caught this too in watching the season 1 on DVD. Definitely something the writers dropped early on. Not an uncommon thing for there to be a few continuity glitches in a first season. Perhaps once the show was slated for a pick-up run that things were shifted a bit.
