I have received and watched Vol. 2 of Black Sheep Squadron. It is a pathetic piece of garbage beyond comprehension. No digital restoration, extremely poor menus with no scene selections, and ZERO extras make this release about worthless. Although I love the series itself, I have lost all respect for Universal after this release. I won't be buying Vol. 3 at all.
"Wah, Wah, I want my Mommy!!, what a cry baby!!, I for one am glad that Universal released it at all, and as for chapter menu's and all that who cares"
Well, seeing as how it was on Vol.1, I don't think it's too much to ask for. A little consistency would be nice. It's obvious that Vol.2 was not authored by the same people or team as Vol.1.
"If you are that bored and you can't sit through the episodes you are not a true fan anyways!!"
Yea, you're right, I'm not a true fan. I only:
1) Have approximately $10,000 worth of Black Sheep Squadron related memorabilia, including some pieces that are one-of-a-kind items that no one else in the world has. 2) Have met the real Pappy many, many times and met several of the Black Sheep Squadron actors. 3) Am friends with and know several owners of authentic F4U Corsairs. 4) Was solely motivated by that series to join the military and become a military pilot. I've been flying for 30 years due to the influence of that show on my life. 5) Yes, I can sit through the series. It takes extremely little effort to do any more than what Universal did. It's evident that all they care about is gouging the public for money.
So, tell me again, how I'm not a true fan?
"In addition there are no extra features, because the series production is dead and nobody would get paid for documentaries."
You're missing the point entirely. There are documentaries and newsreel footage which would be extremely easy to get a hold of to include on this DVD. These were made back in the 40's, 50's and 60's. It would cost nothing to make and only incur perhaps a small royalty fee to whoever owned the documentaries. Some of them might even be in the public domain and be free. This is especially true for anything made, or produced by any of the Armed Forces. They could have included a TON of extras with already made documentaries or newsreel footage. Besides this, some of the pilots who flew in the show could have done some kind of interview or discussion about the flying scenes for bonus material. Knowing some of the pilots involved, I would be extremely surprised if they wouldn't do it for free, if asked.
You really shouldn't assume anything when you reply to these threads, because you have no idea who you are talking to.
Yes, I still don't respect Universal, whatsoever. They have done Vol.2 a huge injustice.
"If you are seeing the real pappy boyington, then you must be in WWII heaven, because I hate to tell you he died a long time ago!! "
Apparently you don't understand English very well, because I never said that. Next time you might want to read what I actually wrote which was the following: "2) Have met the real Pappy many, many times and met several of the Black Sheep Squadron actors. "
Since you don't understand past tense, I'll give you a lesson. "Met" means sometime in the past or past tense, not currently.
I know Pappy died a long time ago. He passed away 11 January 1988. I was supposed to interview him one week after that, but it never happened due to his untimely death. Fortunately, I had gotten to meet him many times prior to that.
"If you have $10,000 worth of WWII crap then you need to get a life!! "
I have a life - a very, very good one, in fact. I work very little and make a substantial six figure income, all due to my flying background and the influence of that show. Are you still living with Mommy and playing with Star Wars action figures?
"Next time lie about things people might believe!!"
I am prepared to back up and prove everything I've said. I'm calling your bluff, tough guy!
I've always found it amazing that people gadge the worth of a dvd by the "extras" and not the quality of the film itself. I mean the show itself is what you bought it for right.
But then I suppose the same types will rate a movie in theater thumbs up or thumbs down more on whether their soda is flat and their popcorn stale than what they're actually watching on the screen.
