I loved this show when I was a kid, even though it portrays Boyington and his men as misfits when that's not the reality. I can ignore so much of the historical inaccuracy, but the one thing that gets me for some reason is the kill flags painted on the guys planes. Every episode they are shooting down lots of Japanese planes- near the end of the series their planes should be so covered in them they'd look like NASCAR vehicles!

Your right. Only Pappy's planes seemed to bulge with flags at the end.

Only confirmed kills count, and they're much harder to come by, because there are stringent requirements. (I think the kill has to be witnessed by one or more other pilots, and the plane shot down has to crash a certain way, etc., etc. -- Hard to do when the other pilots are trying to stay alive.)
