The quality of acting

I just saw the dubbed version of this film, and as is typical of dubbed films, the voice-overs are horrible. Can someone who has seen the original film and knows Italian speak to the quality of the performances? Regardless of the dubbing, this film seemed overacted, but of course, Italians are known for their fiery passions -- particularly these two.

To sum it up I'll say they pretty much make the entire film.

Mariangela Melato and Giancarlo Giannini were the greatest screen couple of the 70s, worthy of the best of Katherine Hepburn/Spencer Tracy partnerships.

They ooze talent and sex appeal on every frame, even when dealing with the most grotesque situations and characters as in this and other Wertmuller films.

Regarding their performance I'd say it's rather subtle and underplayed; if you went to live in Sicily and Milan for sometimes I think you'd know what I mean.
Eventually...:)

Thank you very much for the reply. I could see a real spark between Mariangela and Giancarlo on film, but I found the dubbed dialogue hammy and extremely distracting. I need to get my hands on a good subtitled version of this film so that I may appreciate the nuances of their voices. I also need to visit Sicily and Milan so that I may experience life to the fullest. But first, I must be, shall I say, stronger. Ciao!
