Not to diss Eric Clapton's performance and appearance, but rumor long has been bantered around that if the events of September 18, 1970 had not taken place, the part would have ultimately been offered to Hendrix. The sight of that would truly be god-like ;)

shareOne of the cool things about this movie was seeing Clapton, and he plays a Les Paul! Kind of a flashback to his Cream days, and the 60s. He took up the Stratocaster when Hendrix died, sort of as a tribute, but I've always thought the Les Paul suits his playing better (or any guitar with humbuckers).
Hendrix would have been cool as well, no question.
At least it wasn't Peter Frampton :)
