I remember reading Redford thought Condor was..
..paranoid nonsense in the 70s. I wonder what he thinks now?
share..paranoid nonsense in the 70s. I wonder what he thinks now?
shareOdd he should say this, especially so close to Watergate . . . regardless, it's his best movie . . .
shareI agree and that was exactly what I thought when I read it. I think he may have been trying to turn in a different direction though at the time and I suppose he may have thought he was in danger of type-casting himself in the political thriller/drama mold after Condor, All the Presidents Men and The Candidate
shareYes, Redford made many fine films . . . however, I'm afraid he only did one great filmic work---yes, you're right---Three Days of the Condor . . .
shareOn that I have to disagree, Three Days of the Condor is my favourite of his films, but Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Natural were great films too.
shareThese film you mention are only passable . . . mildly entertaining . . . yes, I'll give yhou that . . . only Condor flies unto a higher plain . . .
share>>> his best movie
Disagree. I find Butch and Sting and Africa all far superior.

None of those rank . . . he had powerful support in each of those films . . . in Condor, he's the sole male lead . . . and carries the production . . . much harder to do . . . yet, he achieved it . . . so he gets high marks . . .
shareI still like the other movies better, but you make a valid point.

As a political thriller its stood the test of time and is fun and entertaining. It also shows what a good leading man he was in his prime.
Its that man again!!
Yes . . . and he must carry the production on his own . . . he doesn't have Newman (or Shaw--in The Sting) to fall back on, or Out of Africa, which is more of a Meryl Streep movie . . . in Condor he really earns his salary . . . he keeps it all together . . . even with the odd ending . . .
shareVon Sydow carries a lot, actually.
shareReally? Well it takes all sorts I suppose and everyone is etitled to their opinion. I presume by Africa you are talking about Out Of Africa, which still makes me cringe every time I think of Meryl Streep's totally over the top accent continually saying 'arrr-freeee-caaaaaaah.. arrr-freeee-caaaaaah'
shareI'm assuming she was playing someone Danish . . . I guess that's how they pronounce the name of the continent they were inhabiting . . . Redford is not at all memorable in the part . . . though I must say the cinematography was beautiful . . .
shareOut in Hollywood, for success, they're forced to tow the leftist party line . . .
However, in this film, his character in on the right . . . the reason the war erupts . . .
Wow, all this mention about favorite Redford movies... and no one mentions Jeremiah Johnson
shareNow that my friend is a great Redford film, in fact it's just a great film full stop - survival in a hostile environment, full of hostile native Americans and psychotic cannibals.
Note to the stupid rednecks
Pick your 'leftist' hatred out of this script you deeply stupid people. Remember - it wasn't the 'leftists' who screwed the economy and got the country into all those wars it can't finish - it was Monkey Boy Bush you dumbasses.

So do you guys all go to the same banjo playing club or what?

Yawn, back in your box you silly tea party redneck. Still seeing reds under the beds at your age is a little pathetic. We're talking about film here and so it's not just another right wing platform for your stupid juvenile propaganda.
shareBush was a Rockefeller Republican . . . worst than any Democratic liberal--believe me!
shareParanoid thrillers were the rage in the mid 70s as Watergate was taking place.
Its that man again!!
This so-called "paranoid thriller" though is superbly produced . . .

Thanks for posting that, I was scrolling down and thinking the same thing, I guess many people can't appreciate a film like that, and that is a shame. It captures a part of Native American history, which predates all other known history in this nation, yet no respect for a great film.
Sad state of society we have here, CIA scandals will seem like a hiccup in the grand scheme of things centuries from now, while the period of the Native American Indian will live for eternity.
