I know it's pointless replying because the post is from 9 years ago at IMDB; nevertheless...
I assume this is in reference to the scene where Joubert and Atwood are walking and talking outside, and Joubert suddenly switches from English to French because some passersby come near enough to overhear them. In the version I was just watching (brand new 4K UHD released last week) there were English subtitles baked into the film itself. Apparently those didn't exist in older versions? Interesting, they appeared vintage to me.
Message to the future:
As for what Joubert said in French, I don't recall. I think they each said one line of dialogue in French and then they switch back to English.
