Soooo....about that rape?

I've been thinking it over since watching the move, and there's no nice way to spin it. She was being kept hostage and he just went right for it.

The whole time after that I was just thinking dude, you totally just kidnapped and raped a woman, like wtf? I don't really care if they kill you now.

She has to help in . . . their in the same group, shall we say . . . she must assist him . . . which she does . . . this film is deep . . .

reply

I don't think he raped her. She kinda initiated the sex. Than again Pollack wasn't gonna direct a film with two of Hollywood's sexiest stars in 1975 and not have em bed down together.

Think of the ticket sales.

I won't lie. This is one of my all time favorites, but I fast forward to the next chapter when the sex scene is coming up. As I have gotten older I find myself uncomfortable with that part of the movie. Times change.

reply

It's called the Stockholm syndrome.

The character Dunaway plays, does not like to be close to people. In her way, she did initiate the sex. Turner is observant enough to be able to read her. Also, by this point in the film, the principals have reached a level of trust . Turner would not have raped her.

Finally, this is entirely gratuitous. In reality, with a man fearing for his life, sex likely would never have come up. At this time in filmdom, two attractive actors were expected to "get it on" for box office sales. It is, after all, a movie.

reply

What movie did you watch? That was clearly consensual sex.

Bill Cosby (LOL)

reply

The love scene blows. It's from her point of view, while the whole of the film is from his point of view. Why? Because Redford, a competitive macho movie star, refused to appear vulnerable.

This is one of my favorite films. But that scene as shot is *beep* You barely see his face except in profile. I know, I know - it's about her opening up to him, buffered by intercut ting her lonely photography. Yet, it's an erroneous move by the filmmakers.

reply

absolutely terrible idea and should be cut. condescending in the extreme. all that bull about lonely photos... and the tv .... news story came on right away. phony
