this movie was funny!

i am a 90s man so anything from the 70s, i am not familiar with. i saw this movie for the first time today (on FX) and even though it was an action/drama movie, i could not help but to laugh. this is because of how pourly made it was. the fight scenes were ok, but it was the sound effects (hits, gunshots, bones breaking, etc) that were the worst. it was supprisigly violent. also, i saw the new line cinema bit before it started. i am assuming they simply re-released it, as they are an american company and i dont think they have been around since the 70s.

Yeah New Line released it on video here in the US.

I believe that it was Toei Co. who origionally released /made the movie.
Yes the sound effects are not the best and the blood looks fake, but it is a product of it's time and of Japan.

But saying all of that, it is still one of my favorite movies of all time and I think of one of the coolest. The sound effects and blood, somewhat add to it's charm for me. I love it. Well I love the unedited letter box version.

I just assumed you came accross it on FX. Man FX and Encore just massacre that movie. It is severly edited!!!, especially the ending. The movie was originally X-rated. Granted any rating given over 30 years ago, is not teh same as it is now, but if you can rent / borrow or buy the uncut widescreen version. I have 3 copies of the movie (2 VHS, 1 DVD). I got the DVD 5 bucks at Best Buy, lol.

yeah i did see it on FX. thats the only version i've seen. i have to agree the sound effects and fake blood only make it better. overall great movie. i love the ending: LOOK OUT FOR THE STREET FIGHTER 2!

I saw this movie about a month before it was shown on FX. I got the entire box set for like $10.

I was expecting it to just be some cheap Kung Fu movie from the 70's, which it is, but I found it more entertaining that most films of the genre.
I loved the extreme cartoon violence...it was unlike any martial arts film I saw before. The scene where the guy gets his balls ripped off is classic, oh and you can't forget the throat ripping scene!

Did they edit any of that out on FX?

Anyways out of all the Street Fighter movies, the original is still the best. Chiba! Chiba! Chiba!
