Filmed in my old town...

The house in this film is located in the "Greenfield Hill" section of Fairfield, CT, right up the street from my friend's house.

We would go up and watch the crew filming Katherine Ross and company.

Other scenes were filmed throughout southern Connecticut, so most of the scenery that ended up in the film was familiar.

When the movie finally came out, my friends and I went to go see at a theater in nearby Norwalk, which had lesser-income citizens.

What an experience!

Seeing all those locales on the screen framing the sci-fi story was CRAZY!

We also had a great time noticing all the breaks in geography ("Hey - that's not down the street!" or "That mall is two towns away!")

We also thought Tina Louise was a HOOT! "Ginger Grant" playing a respectable "Trophy Wife"!

Then - when Joanna's husband complains to her that "My kids look like they are on the welfare" - the local black patrons started yelling at the screen: "Yo! You hear that?! Go to hell, man!"

I was never able to take this movie seriously.

Then, my mother (of all people) told me she and her female pals had set up a movie night outing to see this movie. I simply looked at her and laughed: "What???!!! 'Stepford Wives' in the round???"

Later, she came home and imitated "Bobbie": "And I thought you said we were friends? And I thought you said we were friends? And I thought you said we were friends?"

Oh dear...

I too enjoyed this film as the majority of the film was shot in Redding.
The interior of the Eberhart's home was shot in my family's best friend's colonial home on Rt 58 in Redding Ridge.
I spent countless years in that home and love revisiting the house in this film.
Please see my user review from July, 2012 for a description of my experiences during the shoot in 1974.
I always wondered where the exterior shots of the home were located and you have answered that: Fairfield.
I have lived all over Fairfield County most of my life and enjoy seeing the familiar locations.
I too noticed discrepancies in location continuity and smile.
