DVD is cut?

IMDB states the original runtime is 115 mins but both DVD releases are shorter (110 and 100 mins).
DVD releases are cut?

reply

I've never heard of anything being cut from the film. So I don't know why IMDB has a 5 minute longer runtime. Maybe compression from the change of film to digital format? I don't know.

If the film is 115 minutes long, then a PAL-encoded DVD (i.e. from DVD regions 2 and 4) will make it 110 minutes, due to the 4% speed-up in going from film's 24 fps to PAL's 25 fps.

But I recently, ahem, acquired a copy of the film, and here its running time is 100 minutes, so it's apparently the other version you're referring to. It doesn't aseem to be a PAL version, so that means it's actually lost fifteen minutes. I'd never seen the film before, so I can't be sure what's missing from this version; but I'm wondering if it's a cut of the film made for broadcast TV? Not sure how TV edits account for a whole 15 minutes of lost screen time, though.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

I have two copies of this film. I watched one (a better quality copy) last night which is 1:50:03 long. The other copy is 1:54:46.

The movies begins at the same time (no title cards from production companies).

The credits begin to play in the longer version at 1:53:47. And in the shorter version at 1:49:08.

So we're talking about 4 and half minutes difference.

I'm not sure if it's cut or if as another user stated that the framerate is different and causes a shortening of the film. The shorter copy I have has a fr of 25. I can't tell the fr of the longer copy. I'm hoping that's simply the case. I may watch the longer copy at some point to see if I notice any different scenes.
