Another Rosemary's Baby similarity

We just watched this movie and then stumbled upon "Rosemary's Baby" last night. It is so intersting how, in both stories, the husband is so quickly convinced to do something so terrible. The way the husband in "RB" keeps wanting to go over to the older couple's apartment is so similar to Walter's attachment to the Men's Association. I never realized how similar they were... and I kept wondering what in the world would have happened had these men completely freaked out and not wanted to have anything to do with these sinister plans. Both stories hinge on a man quickly and willingly going along with a horrible, horrible plot.

good point about the husband being so quickly convinced.

Also how they try to make their wives think they are crazy ..

also had an invasion of the body snatchers feel about it. without the aliens.

Absolutely…. And (potential spoiler ahead)…

RB and the Stepford wives both have such bad endings for their leading ladies. Definitely not happy endings so in that way I find the movies alike as well

It is so similar! I’m watching it now and he is talking about the association men like they are the greatest and she complains and makes fun. This is the same way as when Rosemary didn’t want to hang out at Romans.. You’re right it is very similar. They also do go along so quickly yes…. Their career meant more?

I mean, they were both based on novels by Ira Levin so it's not a surprise they share similarities.

That’s feminism for you - men are portrayed as evil and marriage as toxic. Levin was clearly trying to erode trust in the institution, and it worked. Marriages constantly fail and young people are now terrified of relationships.

I give him a pass, though. Both stories are fantastic and became two of the best horror films ever made, partly because the husbands were so creepy. They seemed like decent guys but then it dawns on you that Guy immediately volunteered his wife to be raped by Satan so she would birth the antichrist in exchange for some acting gigs, and Walter was very happy to have his wife ‘copied’ into a complaint sexbot then murdered, despite having two children with her! There is even a suggestion that he knew this all along which is why he was so adamant about moving to Stepford. Eww!

The human evil is what chills the blood in Levin’s supernatural/sci-fi stories.

Imagine blaming Ira Levin for the high rate of divorce in the country 😭

I'm gonna call you Man Hands from now on

Here comes the butthurt stalker desperate for some petty revenge after being smacked down and humiliated in… two other threads now is it?

Absolute cringe.
