Not sure

I am hoping someone can help me out. In "Shivers", the parasites are passed from mouth to mouth, correct? And in one seen did a doctor lean over his patio and expeled a slug onto an unbrella? If it is the same move, scared the hell out of me kissing girls for the first time!

yup, this is it.

Yeah, actually, I watched this movie and another Cronenberg classic "Rabid" in rapid succession as a youngster (in fact, I think I remember it coming in a 2-for-1 pack, but that was years ago, I may be wrong) and mixed the two up. I just grabbed a copy of this movie again recently after having seen Rabid again and it seems they tend to go mouth to mouth most of the time but can enter other orifaces if need be (there's a chick in a bathtub where one goes in between her legs, either anally or vaginally getting in.) I always wondered how they didn't burn the hosts insides out, the parasites were burning skin in some scenes (like with the old lady in the walker) and skin is far, far more tough than the mucus membranes of the internal organs or mouth.

i just read the screenplay for both Shivers and Rabid and i really want to see the films now, i enjoyed the screenplays so much. As for the skin burning, i believe the parasites only expelled the melting acid when trying to immoblise their prey or gain entrance into the body through a hole they have created.e.g the old laundry room lady gets her face melted and i presume the parasite geets into her that way (through the eye socket maybe?). the parasites wouldnt melt the insides of the host or it would die and be pointless.

Makes sense, but what about that scene when the Jewish doctor goes into Nicholas Tudor's apartment and winds up with a bunch of parasites on his face. He runs into the kitchen and rips them off his face and smashes them in the sink. Tudor slowly walks toward the kitchen to see what's happening and we see that he has a big hole in his stomach and smoke is coming out of it. Looks to me like the slugs burned their way out of him.

The parasites' behaviour is linked to sex. Because in men's creativity almost all body orifices can be/are used for sexual acts, the parasites' means of switching hosts has to be through body orifices. Burning through the skin doesn't fit this pattern.

Dodge this.
