relation to the 'dead' movies

especially Dawn of the Dead. Both were similar (towards the end). Creeped me out, man.

this was made before dawn of the dead

But after "Night of the Living Dead". Cronenberg has said that he had seen that film and was likely influenced by it. This is most evident in the scene where the infected are cresting the hill near the end of the film but many shots in the interior remind you of scenes from the Romero classic as well.

Always remember you are unique. Just like everyone else.

The creepy little girl in the elevator is very clearly a reference to Night of the Living Dead.

And both Shivers and the Dead-movies are critisizing the political and social structures of it's times.

Dodge this.

I'd contrast Shivers with NOTLD as in the latter is 99% plausible.

It seems like a cross between Night of the Living Dead and Species.

reply

I may have been influenced, but it was sort of normal thing to do a movie like that in those times.
I agree with the final scene and the little girl comparisons.

Romero and Cronenberg, both in my top five fav directors.

I think the concept is totally taken from Night of the Living Dead. Just substitute sex for cannibalism & it's the same idea...

This is a rotten way to end it!
This is not the end; you haven't read it yet.

Even though this was made years earlier, I saw this movie as a double feature with "Dawn of the Dead" at a drive in in Dawn's first run.

I remember there being some hot lesbo action at some point. I was only 9 years old or so, but I do remember there being some hot action.
