wtf moments

First I have to say this is a great movie. But so many times in this movie you have to ask your self wtf? For example the part when the guy is going down the hall with thefood trolly and then the big fat greasy lady comes out says " Im Hungry, Hungry for love" and drags him into her apartment. Or like when the one guy goes over to the garbage disposal and gets attacked so he beats the guy who attacked him to death.

My biggest WTF moment was when what looked to be an almost nude girl (or teenager) was on all fours on a leash acting like a dog.
I litterally said What The F-- when I saw that.

The funny thing is, when I saw those girls acting like dogs, i LITERALLY said "what the f uck??".

"Someday a real rain will come and wash all the scum off the streets."

reply

I think the reason they were acting like dogs could be in relation to bondage/SM kind of acts, since they are considered to be deviant and abnormal forms of sexual behaviour.

I'm pretty sure those were grown women on the leashes, not teenagers or kids, but it was definitely very perverse. But how about that "have you met my daughter, Erica?" scene. That was even more twisted. That scene with Barbara Steele in the bathtub was also pretty warped, and very ironic considering that Steele spent years denigrating the comparatively tame Gothic horror films that made her famous, then she turns around and appears in this very memorable but totally tasteless scene. Go figure.

reply

Yeah, the scene where the man is blatantly offering his daughter was definately twisted. No idea what message it was trying to convey, if any. But if you're watching a Cronenberg film, it's almost GURANTEED to contain social and cultural messages which are applicable to wider society.

Actually, they looked to be ages 10-14. Looked nearly prepubescent. One has to remember, they weren't involved in anything sexual, so it wasn't required that two young girls on a leash acting like dogs needed to be adults just because of they content in the rest of the film.

reply

My friend and I said this in tandem at the exact same time as soon as the dog-kids appeared 🤣

Almost the whole movie I was thinking, "WTF is this?" But there were a few scenes where I actually said it out loud. Whenever a parasite came out of someone's mouth I yelled it. Oh yeah, and when the main actor showed no emotion the whole way through, I yelled it as well. It's still a great movie though. And my first Cronenberg, so that has to count for something.

reply

its basically any act of "illecit" sex you can imagine made into an even illicter form. the message of the film was basicaly sexually transmitted diseases, which is way sex is blantently used throughout the film, especially when the parasite takes over the body.

"I'm hungry for love." she wants sex and to spread the parasite

the children on leads- bondage and peophilia

the man offering his daughter- something u would never expect

its about confusing ur expectations and twisting the morals and rights you know

reply

The biggest WTF is that it takes so long for anyone to try and call the police or emergency. One woman escapes a rape, and a guy has this bizarre medical problem causing his abdomen to bulge.

WTF moments often add memorability to proceedings. Great for longevity and distinction.
