Very Similar to Rabid--

anyone else notice this? the slow violent spread of a disease/parasite and the craziness that ensues from the infected.

reply

Yeah, Cronenberg has been quoted saying that they can be considered companion pieces.

Always remember you are unique. Just like everyone else.

I always saw Shivers as being Rabid on a more limited scale, in shivers we have an apartment complex, in Rabid he up's the ante and makes it province (and possibly nation?) wide.

Yeah but then again most early Cronenberg films are similar.

No, they are not.

All his horror films are similar, in their themes! Thats why he is considered the inventor of the popular "BODY HORROR" subgenre. So, guys, this director is the original!

reply

Yeah, they're definitely companion pieces. He had a bigger scale and bigger budget for Rabid...the biggest difference is that the parasite may make people seem horny in Rabid but they're actually more likely to draw people in and then brutally murder them. In Shivers, they make people sex maniacs who just want to bang everything...although they will beat you if you resist them.

Yes they are. Parasites that are transmitted from one person to the other and they make you want to have sex. How do you not see a similarity in that?
