6.5 on imdb - is everyone taking f ucking drugs - this is quite possibly the worst film in existence! bad acting, bad script, bad story, bad directing, very bad editing - the whole thing stank! i don't care if it was made in 1975 there is no excuse for a film to be THAT BAD!!!
The acting aint bad, the directing aint bad. If you were clever enough you'd see this is much more than just a film about zombies. It is a film aobut modern society. A brilliant early Cronenberg film, sure it's a bit rough around the edges but I still think this is a brilliant film.
"My rule of thumb is, what Siskel and Ebert like, I don't, and vice versa." David Lynch
I agree about the directing being fine, but the acting is pretty terrible. And we all catch that it's about sexual oppression/liberation, but if the way the metaphor is presented isn't interesting, who cares?
Yes it's about something more, but that alone doesn't make it a good movie...there needed to be something more than JUST the message, there needs to be a reason for it, and here there wasn't. My 2 cents...
"Look, it's not that i'm lazy, it's that I just don't care..." - Peter Gibbons
hah... while I too weren't exactly wowed by Shivers. To call it "the worst film in existance" is far too harsh. You clearly haven't seen real crap if you consider this the worst. ;)
Somebody shoulda given the OP a clue that when you´re planning to present a wildly radical evaluation of an acclaimed film, not NOT chase yer argument off with a thinly veiled insinuation that motion pictures used to be essentially, inherently worse in 1975 than they are these days; a statement like this does NOT do any good to the credibility of the central argument. Unless it´s meant as a broad provocation to begin with.
Also, I didn´t find so bad in any of the mentioned film-making departments; kind of crude and cheapish when it comes to production values, yes, but otherwise a hilarious film with serious stuff on its mind, presenting a potent allegory to brainwashing and rampant mass hysteria whatever shape it might take.
seriously dude, get my point, it doesn't matter when this pile of tripe was made, 1905 - 1975 - 2005 - it doesn't matter, the film was BAD!
people like you must have watched this film and thought that it was so bad it was actually meant to be that bad and hence it must be good, NO, it was BAD, period!
think of it like modern art, somebody will show you an undecorated christmas tree, (check out the Tate Gallery in London, google it!) and tell you it's art, but no, it's a blank christmas tree, it's *beep* *beep* same as this *beep* film!
and....no..i wasn't "planning to present a wildly radical evaluation of an acclaimed film" I was planning on venting my anger at a film that was supposed to be good and all I was left with was a steaming pool of decaying horse *beep*

Exactly the same thing, mate...
