Thank God for Jack Warden

I'm a great fan of Warren Beatty and I liked the first half of this movie. But frankly the second half just devolved into a soap opera about characters who were so shallow (Beatty especially) that you don't care what happens to them.

Are we really supposed to feel sorry for this typical douchebag character who has gotten by on his looks and screws around on his girlfriend then acts surprised that she is upset when she finds out? I would agree with other posters that after a few hours past the end of the movie, he is back in the saddle screwing more women.

Yeah… I feel sorry for him.

On the other hand… Jack Warden gives another solid and hilarious performance. One of my favorite actors ever.

So I'm not the only one who completely lost interest once they go to "the party"? With the exception of a line or two, it went from comedy to pure drama. It was like flipping a light switch.

Kind of always felt the same myself. The characters aren't drawn all that sympathetically (which I think is the movie's point...but still).

Jack Warden however, IMHO, is the most sympathetic and humorous character. Mr. Reliable!
