A movie with a similar plot?

Does anybody remember a movie that came out roughly 1958 to 1961 with a similar plot? Children left to fend for themselves in a covered wagon when their parents die on the trip west. The film I'm thinking of was color, but was definitely not an "A" release. It was shown in my hometown's second rate theater as part of a double feature. I was in junior high and liked it so much I went to see it twice during it's brief showing, but I can't remember the name, nor the names of any of the actors. The 1960s series The Monroes with Barbara Hershey reminded me of this movie, but I notice now that the series was directed by Earl Bennett, director of Seven Alone. Anyway, I'd love to get a look at that old late 50s-early 60s film that impressed me so much, if only I could recall its name.
