The Passenger that is currently being slowly re-issued in the U.S. (last week in N.Y., this weekend in L.A.) is the original uncut European version, with seven minutes of footage previously unseen in the U.S.
Is there a list or a summary somewhere of what the 7 minutes are that were cut from the film when it originally played in the U.S.?
I think I have to disagree. I saw the film last night in NY and I believe that it was an edited version. I noticed that the advertising billboard had a few pictures of scenes which I didn't see in the movie (ie - Maria Schneider and Jack in the hotel room, she in a yellow robe). Too bad, because I wish I could have seen the whole thing in its entirety.
Anybody know what I mean about the edited scenes? The girl in the yellow robe definitely wasn't the film last night (maria schneider in a robe is a scene i sorely missed!)
I saw the film in NYC a couple of days ago. I also have the film on VHS, but haven't seen it in 2 1/2 years, so it was very hard for me to tell when things (if things) were added to this version or not. I recognized most of the scenes...hard to say, maybe there will be a DVD release that'll be easier to spot.

but that's often the case w/ publicity shots. they can be from scenes that never make it into the movie at all, not just some versions of the movie. the fact that you saw it in the billboard doesnt really say if the scene was in the original european version
shareI have just seen the re-issued European theatrical version at the Music Box in Chicago. I own the VHS edition of the US edit. The differences are as follows:
• a scene of Locke with the hotel manager and a guard outside the hotel discussing what to do for the funeral arrangements of Robertson (re: "Locke"). They agree that a Christian mission nearby would suffice.
• A crucial scene inside Locke's house in London after he sneaks in. In the US edit, it is nearly completely omitted (just exteriors). Locke reads a couple of notes left for him and an obituary entry in the paper.
• a brief shot of Locke getting in the rented BMW in Munich.
• The omission of Locke asking passersby in Barcelona for the location of "Umbraculo en Parque Communal." The scene is skipped after the gondola scene and begins with the shot of kids playing in the park.
• An additional scene in Almeria, Spain with Maria Schneider's character where she insists Locke continue with Robertson's appointments. Locke is under a small orange tree and she abryuptly leaves...only to be caught up by Locke in the convertible later on a dusty road.
They are are minor differences except for the one at Locke's flat. I read the running time is actually 9 minutes longer.

I was wondering why the 9:45 showing last night didn't end around quarter to 12 but instead ended a little after 12.
Nice to know that the Music Box is playing the unedited version.
The unedited version should be what's released on DVD. It would be a really bad move to give the unedited version a theatrical run and then release the edited version on DVD.
I just saw the movie in Seattle today and it definitley was the unedited version. Every scene that daydreamblvr1210 lists is included in the film I saw.
Can't wait for the DVD...please let there be extras!!!
