Anyone else obsessed with Maria Schneider?

I find her extremely attractive and just so damn cute! I couldn't stop thinking about her character and her accent after seeing this film. Her seeming niavety, the pauses, her soft voice...

So much so, that I am learning to speak French now!

Anyone else?

my girlfriend said to me: 'she has a monkey-face' french lessons even?

reply

Keep your girlfriend and leave us Maria, thanks.

reply

Well I'm not obsessed, but she is very beautiful. And yeah, the accent, her mannerisms, etc are perfect. I might actually like her even more than Monica Vitti.

reply

Cute yeah, but absolutely no hips.

reply

Not a fan of her acting/looks...

cute in a simian-type way. Vitti is way hotter.

yeah, i too thought 'monkey-face' when i first saw her. and she does have the body of a malnurished 13 year old boy. i bet she's quite hairy and/or pungent, as well. but some people are into that. i think she does an adequate job in this role. i would probably sleep with her at that time in that situation, for what it's worth.

Did you see Last Tango in Paris? You can see her in her entirety.

I think she is more attractive than the average leading lady.

She's gorgeous. And the nay-sayers here seem to have been completely trained by what constitutes "beauty" here in the 21st century. In European film, at least, there seems to be room for the unique and uniquely beautiful. In the US, it seems audiences expect leading ladies to look like completely plastic, fully enhanced blow up dolls.

I think of her as an older sister of mine. She was pretty capable in this film, knew what to do. I'm sure those on this post are thinking if she is attractive. She does have a boyish frame but from Tango, we know she is all woman.

I wondered where SHE (the character) came from. Who can afford to travel like that and even want to view architecture by herself? I suspect she may have been financed by the bad guys. She appeared earlier in the film - coincidences.

I think Robertson must have known he may not live long.

yes the previous poster was right, she is a european beauty, not for everybody's taste, but I think the whole package with the accent, the hair, the sultry voice makes her in this film and in tango as an exceptional woman. if you like big busty dumb blondes with plastic faces then fine, that's your taste. I love her hair in this film, the style. and she does look boyish a bit here but if you see her in tango, wow, she's anything but. the dresses she wears in this film cover her up too well. anyway yes I"m obsessed, I kept on stopping the DVD in freeze just to look at her face, but really she was so young in this, like a teenager. I will never forget the lines in tango where she and marlon brando are argueing, and she insults him, saying "your old!" and he says something like "yeah, and you'll be playing soccer with your tits in a few years" or something like that. anyway thought it was a good comeback.

I like how she is so calm in this film, no matter what happens with the police, etc danger, she is just so calm. she's very european as this film is. I think this antonini dude is good, damm good. the minimalist style works for me. its' not for everybody but I love it. this film was a moment in time, a moment in time for the beauty of maria shneider, a moment in time for the quality actor that jack nickelson was, a moment in time to see parts of europe, a moment in time so see the classic cars, etc, 1975, it was a very good year. this film is part of the golden age from the late 60's to the early 70's. when filmmakers could basically do what they wanted to do without interference from big studious or having to pay actors exorbitant fees. course I'm prejudiced since I grew up watching movies like this and "Swept Away" on late night cable tv. movies today just leave me with a big shrug.

I'm not obsessed, but I've kinda got a crush on her now. I'm not a fan at all of Last Tango, so I wasn't expecting much from her in this, but she completely won me over with her easy going, naturalistic performance. She has a great tomboyish physicality that I find very appealing.

reply

She was very cute, definitely. I think I'll finally watch that Last Tango in Paris DVD I've never gotten around to watching.

I don't think Maria was either very attractive or unattractive. Lookswise she fit the part. Acting wise, however, I found her portrayal not very compelling. In fact the rest of the film I loved, and wondered whether I should give it a ten despite her performance.

But since she was one of several supporting actors, I did go ahead and give it ten.

Great cinematography, performance by Nicholson, editing, themes and an interesting story, generally very good supporting cast.
