This film has a similar vibe. Wonder if it served as an inspiration for Copola’s film.

I’m pretty sure it did. I did read that the cinematographer of Coppola’s (lousy imo) remake of The Beguiled used both Picnic at Hanging Rock and Roman Polanski’ s Tess as inspiration for the film’s look.

I believe the trivia says that it indeed inspired both TVS and Marie Antoinette.
