what is with all the non-supernatural theories?

Even without the "extra chapter", both the book and the movie clearly show some very weird crap going on when the girls disappear.

In the movie you've got slow motion and some other weird effect, plus a myriad of unexplainable stuff like Michael's cut coming out of nowhere. In the book you have some very odd scenes as well.

Yet reading threads here people suggest mundane explanations like falling into a crack or a rock slide. What's up with that?

Just weird quirks of people, their unwillingness to accept any supernatural elements (even though they're present in the book) because it "ruins" the film or is "too easy" of an explanation, etc. [insert generic excuse here].

I'm perfectly willing to accept that there is no explanation. The book was written with no explanation for the disappearance of the girls.

If the book gave no explanation, there can't really be one.

I liked the movie, thought it was very well done in every way.
