Bloodshed in McMurphy's fight with orderly?

During the group session with Cheswick yelling "I want something done!", McMurphy gives him the cigarrates he wants then gets into a fight with one of the African orderlies.

During the fist fight, on McMurphy's arms and wrists, there is red substance. Is this blood or some sort of spilt medicine?

Blood, you must have missed the bit where he smashes through a pane glass window on the nurses office to grab the cigs.

Oh right - of course McMurphy got blood from smashing the pane glass window. >_>
