Tragic ***Spoilers****

This is one of my favorite films because the layers of human interaction require multiple viewings to catch and understand. I just noticed that when Barbara Jean first performs after her relase from the hospital Barnett asks how she's doing. She says "I'm a little tired", but he doesn't care and asks again and she replies she's fine and ready to go. She seems fine until she performs the song Dues, the lyrics reflect her emotional state with her husband and she has an "episode". All this adds leads to the tragic desicion to have her perform at the rally.

Good observation. And oh so chilling as well. I never took it as that, but you'd have to I guess.
I love the layers of Tom and Linnea in the club, in addition to the Barbara Jean storyline. They all give themselves away a little, peice by peice. Tragic indeed...

Young man is angry! Girl is afraid! He wants to get high, she wants to get paid! City's Burning!

I'm glad you noticed that because I did too. If you notice at first when her husband asks her she's talking about feeling a little rusty and tired and then immediately she changes her mood to suit the role she feels she's supposed to have. It's all a fascade for a sad, tragic woman. It's very sad indeed. Ronee Blakley's performance is brilliant and so convincing. My favorite part of the film.

Mama:I can see your dirty pillows everyone will!
Carrie:If you got it,flaunt it bitch!
