I cant understand why it's so hard to see this film. It's supposed to be a classic, and it did ok at the box office didn't it? I havn't even seen this on video anywhere in Australia.
It must be available some place in Australia, because that's where I first saw it, back in the late 1970s . A humanities teacher showed it to junior-high-school-age kids at a Victorian tech school. Totally inappropriate for 13-14 year olds, but, hey, he was a cool teacher and nobody thought very critically about the curriculum in those days. It was on VHS, which was the latest technology at the time.
