Question about Sueleen's ride home

This may be a trivial question but I still want to know.

Delbert Reese gives Sueleen a ride home after the fundraiser. I thought he dropped her off at (presumably) her apartment; but after a minute, she leaves the building she had just entered and walks up the sidewalk to a different building and climbs the stairs. Delbert follows.

So what was all that about, staying in the first building for just a minute? Can any of you who have watched this movie multiple times enlighten me?

reply

I thought that she didn't want him to know where she lived.

Certainly sounds reasonable. I guess she was surprised to see that he had exited his car and was loitering around there when she emerged from the doorway. At that point, I guess she had no choice but to just continue walking up to her apartment. It also seemed that Delbert was a bit suspicious because he was looking in the window, wondering if the building she'd entered was really a residence.

I don't blame her for not wanting him -- or any of the men involved with that night -- to know where she lived. She would have been perfectly within her rights to demand taxi fare.

they live in a hotel...she was getting her key from the desk, i think.

I agree with royandbill. Hotels used to operate that way, especially long-term stays. Take your key down in the morning and pick it up at the front desk when you came back.

I'm not into your passport picture, I just like your nose.
