I don't think his aloofness towards his kids was because they were special needs, as Altman stated. I think he just wasn't interested in them, period.
shareI think I have to agree here...when his son was talking about swimming class with Tomlin, he just looked so bored by the whole thing. It was obvious he never learned to sign so he must not care that much.
