I am pissed. I just finished watching Nashville and I can say without a doubt that it is one of the greatest movie of ALL TIME. Then I go to IMDb to see that it is NOT in the Top 250. Why is that? This movie is incredible. I couldn't stop watching it from beginning to end. It is deep, intriguing, funny, sad, and heartbreaking, all of the same time. Why is this MASTERPIECE not in the Top 250? We have to get it up there!!!!!!!!! IT HAS TO BE IN THE TOP 250!!!!!!!!! It's an absolute REQUIREMENT!
Now excluse me. I'll be right after I watch this MASTERPIECE AGAIN!
Hello, just got back from watching this MASTERPIECE again. IT's even better the second time! We need to find a way to get this MASTERPIECE into the Top 250. The only thing that's keeping from the Top 250 are the idiots who gave this film a low score and the unfortunate souls who have not witnessed this MASTERPIECE! Everyone who has not seen the film, See IT IMMEDIATELY! IT IS A MASTERPIECE! and I don't just throw that word around on just any film. Nashville will remain in my memories for the rest of my life! I suggest you guys see it! I can't help it when I'm repeat myself But Nashville has to be seen by everyone. It is an absolute requirement for not not just for film lovers but for everyone who don't even watch films. Nashville must be experienced, enbraced, and raved about! IT is a brilliant MASTERPIECE!
I agree that Nashville is a great film. Where it is ranked in some list is a matter of total indifference to me. Why do people worry about such nonsense? I guess because they are the kind of people who think typing in CAPITAL LETTERS is a good way to show emphasis. Oh well.
That's really sad. I love Scarface and all, but I find very shameful that Nashville is not up there in the top 250.
On your comment of Teenage boys with ADD, I will admit something: I'm Not what you would call this film's target audience. I was born in the late 1980's (I'm 17); I've never went through the events of the 70's, and I'm not extremely well read on politics (although I do try to keep up on current events once in a while). But that didn't stop me from loving this film. You actually felt that the characters were really real people; who had lives before the started and after the movie has ended. I understood their sadness, their pain, their greediness, their happiness, and their frustrations. There are times where I'm on the verge of crying when I think of the all the great moments of this film (and movies don't make me cry that often). "What is this movie about?" Many critics and movie goers would ask. Isn't it obvious? It's about the american people. It's about us. Its about our emotions, our thoughts, our feelings, our frustrations, our politics, and our lives. No movie has ever affected me such as Nashville in my life.
If you don't live in the US it's incredibly difficult to get a copy of Nashville. I desperately want to see this film but the studio has yet to release a Region 4 DVD version (and I live in Australia and own an Australian DVD player). Not even my local arthouse videostore has a copy of it (not even on video!). Because of the limited release on DVD I doubt this will be making it to the Top 250 anytime soon, as it wouldn't qualify with not enough votes.
Luckily I've been able to change the region on my DVD player, and I've just ordered my very own copy of the film from Amazon.com. I can't wait until it arrives .
You won't be disappointed. Nashville is all it set out to be and even tho it's dated, it still feels timeless.
We all have that problem of waiting and waiting in vain to see a glorious movie from another country.. There are foreign films released that I salivate to see knowing that the odds are that I'll never get the chance. I'm American and I dig German cinema. I hate dubbed film and I really hate sub-titles and I don't speak German (altho all my ancestors did.) but for some ... I would quietly give into dubbing or subs. So many wonderful movies are so difficult to find and maybe if you do find them someplace, from somewhere, you can't play them in your equipment anyway. What a drag.
Nashville's just another mid-sized American City. Nothing special. Some nice restaurants, but not nearly as many as Memphis has. You do meet an inordinate amount of musicians in Nashville. That old song, Nashville Cats... true blue. Have to remember that it is southern town so the main ingredient is "country" but the whole of it goes against the laid back feel of say, Knoxville. Nashville contains alot of determination. And also Nashville contains many many bars. The Juke box is a living thing in that town.
No, what's "overrated" is ImDb's Top 250, because most of the voters have an agenda. If you must consult a "greatest films of all time" list, I suggest the Library of Congress National Film Registry.
I hope my rating of 2 stars can help you to your goal. No I don't like guns, blood, big box office, and yet I still hated this film. Guess it's just not appealing enough to enough people. It happens.
It is Altman. Small minds do not get Altman as his films are about depth and making connections in your mind, something most movie goers want done for them with a simple, easy to follow narrative. Altman's genius grows in stature, while other "good" films and filmmakers lose their appeal over time.
