At the gentlemen-only political fundraiser; a question-

Sueleen Gay is performing at this "gig" and learns she has to do more than just sing. There are (understandably) no other women present, except one: Albuquerque (Barbara Harris). She is poking her head out from behind a red curtain during much of the performance. At one moment she seems to be munching on a chicken leg. Anyone have a clue about her being there? After all- it's not exactly a free walk-in show.

I always just assumed she snuck in. She was trying to find someone who could help her with her "career", and was wandering all over town.

I'm going to guess - and it is just a guess - that Altman thought it was important to have at least one other woman witness Sueleen Gay's humiliation. (Also, though Gwen Wells is great throughout, she is particularly great in that scene, which must have been hell to do.)

Plot-wise, she was probably hungry. Structure-wise, I'd go along with what singer said.
