Why no blu ray?
Altman was one of America's finest directors, and Nashville may be his finest film. Wonder why it hasn't been released in bluray?

shareVery few of his films have made it to blu-ray thus far, but they're likely to arrive within the next couple of years.
shareThe film was shot in grainy, realistic style, and the sound was recorded as it happened on location (even the music). I don't know that there's much to be gained from a blu-ray.
It was shot on 35mm.
There is much to be gained.

Your comment is stupid. Check the comparison off DVD Beaver. If you don't think Blu Ray is going to be an improvement for a film shot on 35mm, I hate to break it to you, but you need to get your eyes (and brain) checked.
shareohh yea so far we got 3 women, mash, the player and nashville on its way! hopefully criterion can get rights to images and brewster mcloud. i would love to see what they would be able to work there wonders with those 2. i know gosford park has been released on bluray but it might be oop, another title criteiron should go for i can imagine that looking amazing also in blu.
shareI'd imagine that Images could be a possibility, as at last check the distribution rights were held by MGM, who has licensed titles out to Criterion before, but Warner Bros. basically never licenses titles out to third party companies and Brewster McCloud (among other Altman films) is owned by them. What sense does it make to just allow a film they could get money for (by a company buying the rights from them) to sit in their vaults collecting dust? Not much, but that's Warner Bros. for you. They have the lowest rate of classic/catalog releases on Blu-ray of any of the major studios and clearly in many cases have no intention of ever releasing some of their films in this format yet they also refuse to license the titles out to companies who would be happy to release them. It makes little sense and is very frustrating.

It's available on dual format blu ray and dvd.
shareI just watched the Blu-Ray, shortly after watching part of the film on the old DVD. It's definitely worth the upgrade. You get both the Blu-Ray and the DVD, with plenty of supplements, all available on both formats.
Great way to see this classic film.
