Do You Want to Know a Secret.

That seems to be the song that Norman starts to play after Tom gives him the Guitar and says "Here, write yourself a hit"

reply

Yeah, I've always noticed that too!

Even though it sound a little bit like the Beatles classic, I don't think that was intentional...I think it was probably the one riff the guy who knew how to play and he kept playing it over and over.

reply

Well since he doesn't sing along with what he's playing we can't know for sure and he's unfortunately no longer around to ask.But I would say it's too close to be a coincidence,it's practically identical to the guitar part in the Beatle song and even in the same key.I don't think it was intentional in the sense that he was asked to play that song for some reason by the writer or director but I definitely think he chose to play it himself for whatever reason, maybe as you suggest it was the only thing he knew.

It fits with the character, too, in a sort of sad ironic way.

Norman tries his damnedest to be a sort of good friend and confidante to those around him, but he's always treated like dirt ("Excuse me, but I make a point to never engage with /the help/" as Opal says), but he still feels close enough to any of them, mistakenly, to confide a secret in and hope they'd feel the same toward him.
