There was no book that featured one of Hammond Maxwell and Ellen’s daughters, but I’ll bet you are thinking of "Scandal of Falconhurst"(Fawcett, 1980) by Ashley Carter, the eleventh book in the fifteen-book series. "Scandal of Falconhurst" takes place over seventeen years and begins at Falconhurst in 1844 when Ellen has her first child, a near-white girl (named Scandal) fathered by Herman Hengst (a.k.a. Brass Door), the title character of the earlier book "The Mustee." (Hengst/Brass Door does not appear in the "Mandingo" or "Drum" movies.) After Hammond sets Ellen and the baby free, the teenage Scandal grows up to marry blonde horse breeder Wade Cameroon and moves to New Orleans. "Scandal of Falconhurst" is one of the better books in the Falconhurst series. Scandal is an intriguing young woman and probably the best female character in all of the books, one of the reasons why this entry is a particular favorite of female Falconhurst readers. You should be able to find a used paperback copy on eBay, Amazon, or abebooks.com. Note: The authors of the "Mandingo" sequels were Lance Horner (not Lance Carter) and Ashley Carter (pseudonym for cult pulp author Harry Whittington). "Master of Blackoaks: and the other "Blackoaks" books by Ashley Carter are not part of the Falconhurst series.
