I Can't Believe Some People Take This Movie Seriously.

I remember seeing it in '75 with a mostly black audience and it was the best time i had watching a movie. People were rolling in the aisles. This was back when it was okay to talk back to the screen. Suffice to say most people didn't find it offensive. Different but not offensive.

They actually found the movie funny?

I'd heard black audiences were offended by this movie!?

Why is it so hard for some to believe that blacks in general weren't offended by this? The movie was a joke from start to finish even in '75.

OK--I don't take this movie seriously but I'm surprised that black audiences weren't offended. The constant use of the 'n' word, the tortures, whippings, beating...every black character was treated like dirt and it's all shoved in the audiences face. How can anyone find it amusing? It is over the top but it's played dead serious. Well it obviously had an audience--"Drum" came out a year or two later. That was even worse than this (and rightfully bombed).

"Hello"! The movie is about slavery. And what were slaves called back then? "N iggers" (i can't stand the term "n word"). And guees what?... THEY WERE TREATED LIKE CRAP! In general blacks weren't offended and found it a joke plain and simple. Let's just leave at that and please don't get all PC on me.

WTF??? OldeSkool, you CAN'T stand the term "N word" but you like using the word "n*gg*r"?? I think that pretty much disqualifies your expert opinion on what black people are and are not offended by. Films like Mandingo and Drum etc were produced by whites, written by whites and directed whites. These type of films were made for the enjoyment of ignorant people who didn't know any better.

Read over what i said before you comment, idiot. There's a big difference betwwen the tern "n word" and n igger. I am 48 year old black man and i'll use the word any damn time i feel like it not because i like using i just don't see anything wrong saying it to make a point or in the context of a discussion. I don't understand why people like you get so upset over this piece of trash and try to put down people who aren't. If you weren't around in '75 then YOU are the one who's not qualified to try and tell me anything.

"N iggers" (i can't stand the term "n word")

Apparently you didn't read over what YOU said either. You clearly are the idiot. I grew up in the 70s and in 1975 I was 17 yrs old. Black hypocrites like you are so accepting of racial slurs for entertainment until some white racist fool calls you the "n" word to your face. Then you are the first to cry racism. I stand by my statement. You are not the one qualified to tell black people what we should or should not be offended by.

I didn't bother to come back in here to check to see if you had the nerve to reply. I guess you are dumber than I thought.
