Whats so funny about this film

People actually find this film funny and camp "WHY". I think the film makers only intention was to make a serious film about slavery, and to depict the Horror and depravity that was rife at that time. The film revolved around Hammonds hypocricy, which the superb ending brilliantly portrayed. Incidently the only people who would find this film funny is the present day racists who probably find the words used to describe black people in the film hilarious.

People think this movie is funny because it is so over the top and historically inaccurate. Plantations were run this way only in the movies.

"Don't be a putz. See the world. Me you've seen already."

While I am no expert on slavery, but seriously how would you know if plantations were run this way only in the movies. My opinion would be that some plantations were cruder than others. I couldnt imagine the makers of mandingo making it all up, there has to be some element of truth.

If you read the slave narratives you find that slaves were treated even worse than what was depicted in the film. Slaves weren't considered humans.

Nothing is funny about this film. I suspect it really was like that, and likely worse at times. This movie while entertaining makes me sick. What is wrong with some people? There are some that wish it could still be like the times we saw in this movie. The bi-racial sex was not shocking, the level to which the blacks were degraded was shocking.

I think what most people find funny in this film is the Hammond's stupidity! Think about it - if they really believe their slaves to be animals why are they having sex with them? Shouldn't they consider that a form of bestiality? And the old man keeps a slave boy under his feet even though he knows it isn't curing his arthritis. Racists are so stupid that their behavior evokes our laughter, even today.
