You'll Never See This Movie on TV

You will never see "Mandingo" on regular TV. Maybe you can find HBO or Cinamax showing it like 2am or 3am in the morning. But only during low peak viewing hours. Their is no way this movie can even be edited for television. And they think both blacks and whites are offended by the movie. You have to search real hard over the net to find even a VHS copy of the film. But you can find it on the net. I have acopy I purchased from a video store way back when VHS's first came out! I still have it. But now, all stores have pulled "Mandingo" from sells and ordering.

I know this will never happen. But if they were to do a remake of "Mandingo". Who do you think could play the part of Mede, the mandingo? I think Michael Jai White would be great for the part of the mandingo. And sexy actress Meagan Good could play the part that Brenda Sykes played! If you don't know who actor Michael Jai White is. Check out his website at......

In the late 70s and early 80s HBO used to show this movie all the time. In prime time, no less. And it got good ratings.

It's true that the VHS is hard to find. That's because it's out of print, like most VHS titles nowadays. No conspiracy here.

You did not see this movie on regular TV. You may have seen it on one of the pay movie cable channels like HBO or Showtime. But you did not see it on any network stations or any local channel in your area.

reply

I definately saw it on television. It was a long time ago and I was rather young. No question about it as there was no cable, vhs, dvd etc. at that time.

reply

I saw this movie on ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS

reply

HBO was a much better channel back then...

I wish they were half the channel they were then now. I might get cable again.

reply

You'll mean on American TV because here in Europe, which is another continent in the world you live in, Mandingo can be watched from time to time ( I have seen it twice )

The original running time of the film Mandingo was 127 minutes. The VHS version is 121 minutes. I just checked eBay and they are selling the full frame uncut 127 minute version on DVD. The listing states: "THIS VERSION INCLUDES THE OPENING SLAVE LINEUP WHERE SLAVE TRADER BROWLY INSPECTS THE PRIVATE PARTS. THIS FILMS IS NOT FOR CHILDREN. INCLUDES ALL THE NUDITY AND LANGUAGE NOT IN THE NEWER DVD VERSIONS." The widescreen DVD version I bought over a year ago is 118 minutes. The 127 minute full frame version was released on laserdisc. I still have not seen the censored scenes but the uncut 127 minute full frame Mandingo DVD is selling on eBay for under $10.

Msowen7,

Thanks for the tip! I bought a copy off of E-bay! Quality is great! Only thing there are no extras and yet it is UNCUT!

But geez, Slavery was HORRIBLE! I was appalled when the slave trader made the slave bend over and inspected his arse!

reply

Yeah really ... it was just like that too. They never looked at their feet. Darn old historical figures! Meanies! Looking at bottoms!

"Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, hear the lamentations of their women." - Khan

reply

Yeah slavery was bad but at the same time it's good that we can see what it was like so we can empathize, the only problem is when we find that we are being desensitized. And by the way Draconian Clown, Khan asks the question of what is best in life, and it is Conan who replies with "Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, hear the lamentations of their women"

reply

<< But geez, Slavery was HORRIBLE! >>

Um...yeah.

hehey, hello Flemish folks over here
just saw the movie mandingo on Jan Verheyen's brilliant cult night
this guy rocks btw
and since mr. Verheyen said "you won't find this movie on DVD" (guess we all know why...) I took me vcr and taped it. Have to say it's worth it cause I liked it. btw, non of you Flemish folks happened to have taped night of the creeps? I was watching the movie but like in the middle of it, the whole freakin' town of Gent fell out of power. No electricity, so no night of the creeps. I'm dying to see the end but Jan Verheyen also said "this hasn't been released on video or even DVD" (altough I have heard rumours it has recently in America). Anyway, if you would have taped it. Could you like copy it for me, Name your price. Well, thanks in advance.

A powerfully disturbing movie. I'm lucky to have it on VHS from a while back.

I saw it on tv when I was very young. That was in Jamaica though. Back in the 80's, when there was only one channel for the whole island. For years, I thought this movie was named Jubal. I have no idea where I got that from.

reply

I grow up with cable(we got in 1987) and I have NEVER seen it on any cable or local chanel. I had to rent it from a family video to see this.
