How about a REMAKE??
Who would you cast in the leading roles?
shareProbelm is a lot of actors have tatooed their bodies. Otherwise Tyrese would make a good Mandingo, and Paris Hilton could play Blanche.

Actually, I'm surprised it hasn't, and probably will. It just hasn't been brought to the attention of the right directors and producers. Hell, everything else has been lately. With some of the talent out there today I'm sure someone could do a great job and make it much more beleivable and historicaly correct. I'm still waiting for part 2 of "Once upon a time in the West". No comparison of course just hopefull.
shareBought the movie on Amazon and was not impressed by the acting or the plot. I recall reading the book on the sly when i was about 11 years old and found it in my mom's old card board suitcase (which was filled with goodies to a kid) that had things we werent supposed to see. I even bought the book again. I bought Drum also. They were both disappointing after all the hype tho. Sigh the novels are always better than the movies though.
shareI saw this film for the first time today (never even heard about it a week ago) and couldn't help but think of Manderlay, the Lars Von Trier film with Bryce Dallas Howard.
A remake? No freaking way will they ever remake this. Hollywood doesn't make movies that make Americans look bad, which is why it's okay to make a European period piece that no one wants to see like Marie Antoinette or even one some might want to see like the new Elizabeth movie, but Hollywood doesn't like making movies where white Americans are the "bad" guys (or rather, not the "good" guys).
And this is besides the fact black/white relationships are still frowned upon in American cinema and TV. It's not a coincidence great actors like Samuel L. Jackson, Morgan Freeman, or even Denzel Washington rarely have an onscreen relationship or love scene with someone that's not black or latina, or that most major white American actresses don't often (and probably will never) have an onscreen relationship or love scene with someone that's not white (no just black).
However, I have noticed if the woman is clearly labeled as "Jewish" then it's not so bad. So I guess if they could get Sarah Silverman to play Blanch then maybe they'd do it

why don't we remake snow white and the seven dwarves? God how I hate that any movie over 10 years old, some dolt asks "when's the remake?"
shareExcellent points, fellow re-make haters.
"Paris Hilton could play Blanche."
Now *THAT* would be great. I admit that's an excellent idea... of course it will never happen, but watching that skank play a nasty inbred might actually be enjoyable! But again, it won't happen. I love '70s exploitation cinema; i doubt there will be another era like it. Leave the classics alone!

Hollywood doesn't make movies that make America look bad? Turn off AMC and watch they garbage they put out now. And it's hurt box office, people are tired of the anti-American crap they've been doing for 35+years.
shareMichael Richards as Warren Maxwell!
shareNo this would not work in 2008 or 2009 slavery is still hard to watch and whipping black actors on screen would make people mad still. Not even a soft version of the film, perhaps a light comedy will be better to speak against the slave trade to took place 400 years ago.most Whites don't want to be reminded of what took place 400 years ago an lay more guilt on them, and Blacks more hate.Roots was the finale film on American slavery in the late 70's and we're done with that entire thing. If remade it goes straight to video.

Maybe it's too "politically incorrect" for a remake.
After all, there's a lot of sensitive folks out there who wouldn't appreciate the atrocities of the past being shoved in their face.
I'm tired of remakes, although I'd watch this one.
