Alternate Ending? Which version to buy? (SPOILERS)

In his 1975 review, Roger Ebert writes:

the master goes on to boil Mede down into soup, which he pours on the grave of the unfaithful wife

The DVD that I purchased from Amazon.com does NOT have this ending. Anyone got a link for s source that presents the ending that Ebert describes?

Ebert is not describing the "soup" ending as being part of the movie, but of the novel upon which the film is based.
