best movie laugh ever...

Duvall (a guffaw maestro) after he reads Caan the letter from the girl's doctor (toward the beginning of the film)...I thought the roof was gonna come off the car. Caan's reaction was great, too: 'Dirty guy...'

that and Billy Green Bush's 'Zipper' laugh from 'Electra Glide in Blue' are my two favorites of all time...

Damn funny you mention it, as I type both Electra Glide in Blue and The Killer Elite are being played back to back on Encore Mystery channel from 8:40 PM to 1:00 AM PST. One of the strangest coincidences in awhile! Oh good lord that Duvall laugh is like an 8 part cackle, what is that? He drops a few octaves, some nasty howl, ah man that's way too funny. Good call sir!

reply

Today too. Yah, Duvall's laugh is excellent.

It looked to me like Duvall and Caan were improvising with each other. Those early scenes between them were really strong.

Admittedly, 'Killer Elite' is not among his best work (his drinking and substance abuse, not to mention his natural antipathy toward Hollywood power types, having pretty much overtaken him at this time)...but 'overrated'?
At the top of his game, early on--'Ride the High Country', 'The Wild Bunch', 'Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid'--I'd argue he was among the top filmmakers working in Hollywood at the time.

Gotta love that laugh, tho... :)
